Fuzzy Berber?

For most carpets, major carpet manufacturers strongly recommend vacuums with a rotating brush and beater bar that helps loosen the soil trapped within the carpet. This is not recommended for Berber carpet. The beater bar/brush makes the floor covering look fuzzy because it agitates the pile. Berber carpet has a thick, loop pile construction that can be sensitive to brushing and rubbing. The motion from the beater bar is what causes the loop of the Berber carpet to become frayed or fuzzy.

Homeowners can prevent the deterioration of the appearance of their Berber carpet by investing in a vacuum without a beater bar.

Models without a beater bar/brush are called suction-only vacuums. The suction-only vacuum is normally found in a canister style model. To properly maintain Berber carpets, it is necessary to use this suction-only model or a vacuum with an adjustable brush which can be lifted away from the carpet so as not to agitate the pile.

By using a vacuum that is suction-only vacuum or one that has an adjustable brush and no beater bar, a homeowner can maintain the appearance of their Berber carpet over time. This is true for every pattern, style and color of Berber carpeting. With proper care, Berber owners can enjoy the great satisfaction of having low maintenance carpet without having to worry about fraying or fuzzing.

Berber carpet has become very popular during recent years. The name for Berber carpet is derived from the ochre-colored, leathered look of cloaks worn by the Berber tribes of North Africa. Most often Berber carpets are made from flecked yarns that come in different loop styles.

The material can vary from a knurly, faux sisal style to a large, rough-hewn look loop. Berber also has an array of colors ranging from the most common neutrals to pastels and darker tones. Not only does Berber carpet offer a nice selection of styles and colors, but it holds up well in high-traffic areas and tends not to need as much maintenance as other types of carpets.
