Carpet Scope Of Work
General Requirements:
Installation contractor (Contractor) shall maintain a professionally staffed, commercial place of business, while keeping regular hours.
Contractor shall provide all products and materials to complete all work as specified.
Contractor shall provide qualified personnel to perform all work. Contractor’s personnel shall have the proper training, tools, and instructions to perform the required work correctly; shall be professionally attired or otherwise acceptably presentable; and shall operate out of suitable vehicles.
Contractor shall provide a full-time professional staff to administer and perform warranty, repair, and other customer service work associated with this Scope of Work.
Contractor’s personnel shall comply with all project rules and regulations governing work procedures, traffic control and parking, use of water, electrical, and restroom facilities, safety practices, housekeeping requirements, and personal behavior.
Contractor shall maintain a communication capability which provides ready access to contractor’s key personnel and timely exchange of written information. FAX, voice messaging, pagers, radios, and/or mobile phones are required.
Contractor shall maintain and provide:
Product literature & samples
Written job estimates and price quotes
Written installation standards & procedures
Consumer care & maintenance information
Manufacturer’s warranties
Job history records
Job site inspection reports
Contractor shall provide detailed carpet seaming diagrams for each project floorplan so that suitability of installation design and efficient utilization of materials can be verified.
Contractor shall provide contractor’s written warranty describing the terms and conditions under which installations and workmanship are guaranteed. Warranties must cover a minimum period of one year from the date job site is transferred to the consumer.
Contractor shall maintain a communication capability which provides ready access to contractor’s key personnel and timely exchange of written information. FAX, voice messaging, pagers, radios, and/or mobile phones are required.
Special Requirements:
The descriptions contained in this Scope of Work shall be complete except for the modifications and/or additions noted below.
Material Specifications:
Carpet and pad materials shall be (name brand and description of specified products including standard or upgrade designations):
The above floor covering products and their wholesale suppliers shall be evaluated by the Contractor, and certified as suitable to meet the project’s requirements for quality, availability, and service support.
All carpet and pad materials and products shall be new, first quality merchandise in current production, and covered by written manufacturer’s warranties.
All products such as tack strip, seaming tape, adhesives, staples, seam sealers, etc. used for
the installation of carpet and pad materials shall be of a quality and type approved by the product manufacturer or CFI (the Carpet and Rug Institute).
No un-installed carpet or pad shall be left overnight on the job site without the express approval of the site manager and his acceptance of responsibility for such materials.
Work Procedures:
“All materials and products to be installed shall be delivered and handled on the job site in a manner consistent with the manufacturer’s recommendations and established industry practices. Installers shall possess written work orders detailing the site address, material description and pattern numbers (if applicable), job layout, installation instructions, and all relevant details necessary to confirm the work to be performed at the site.”

A pre-installation job site inspection shall be conducted to confirm floor-covering materials can be properly installed and protected under existing site conditions. Installation will not take place until job site conditions are acceptable or the site manager otherwise authorizes work to proceed.
Additional work required to bring the job site into compliance with proper pre-installed requirements is the responsibility of the site manager.
Prior to product installation, the following basic site preparation procedures shall be completed:
Sweep and clean a dry area where carpet will be unrolled and cut
Scrape & sweep subfloor surfaces to remove incidental dirt and debris
Re-nail occasional surfaces to remove incidental dirt and debris
Thoroughly check subfloor decking and steps for squeaks to be corrected
Repair minor subfloor imperfections using a cement-based patching compound
Carpet and pad installation shall follow procedures recommended in CRI 105 - 1995 (the standard industry reference guide published by the carpet and Rug Institute for installation of residential textile floor covering materials).
Performance Standards:
All installations shall be started and completed according to specified schedules All installations shall be performed according to methods and procedures as specified by the product manufacturer, CRI, or accepted industry practice.
Overall appearance of the installation shall be consistent with other installations in the project, and shall meet or exceed manufacturer’s guidelines or accepted industry standards:
Pad shall be installed abutting the tack strip without any gaps, holes, or separations
Pad shall be attached to the subfloor with pad adhesives or staples
Pad seams shall be secured with masking tape and positioned so as to coincide with carpet seams
Carpet appearance shall be uniform throughout the installation
All carpet seamed together as part of a continuous installation shall be installed with the pile oriented in the same direction, and shall be of the same dye lot with a uniform color and texture
Variations in color due to dye lot or pile differences (when installation layout permits) shall not be obvious or visually inappropriate
Carpet patterns shall be visually square with walls, aligned at the seams, and not exhibit bows or distortions, which exceed manufacturing specifications.
Carpet shall be stretched drum tight, and all edges shall be securely attached. Carpet shall be fitted neatly and securely at transitions with other flooring surfaces using either a Z-bar, clampdown gripper bar, or a binder bar.
All carpet transition trim strips shall be installed square with doorways and other floor coverings
Trim strips shall be securely attached, well fitted, and not damaged or dented
No gaps (short cuts) or bulges (fullness) shall exist where carpet is fitted to vertical surfaces
Gaps above carpet at baseboards shall not exist where carpet is fitted to vertical surfaces
When practical, seams shall be positioned away from high traffic areas and oriented in line with primary sources of daylight
Use of cross seams and angle seams shall be avoided if practical (doorway seams excepted)
Parallel seams shall be a least 3-feet apart
Seams shall be well bonded, tight neatly trimmed, and have the same gauge as the carpet
Seam visibility or slight seam peaking is permissible; seams shall not be visible due to poor seaming techniques or materials
Long seams placed in prominent locations shall be made with 6-inch wide seaming tape
Berber seams shall be made with 6-inch wide seaming tape
Loop pile carpet (Berber) seams shall have edges sealed with latex prior to seaming
Carpet on steps shall be firmly attached, tightly stretched, and wrapped over the tread nosing
Carpet edges exposed on open-sided steps shall be neatly doubled under itself to provide a finished edge appearance without excessive bulging
Carpet runners on stairs shall be square with steps and uniformly aligned from top to bottom
Binding on carpet edges (if specified) shall be color-matched and machine stitched
Staples used to secure carpet on steps shall not be commonly visible
Completed carpet installations shall be free of dirt or other foreign debris
Scrap carpet sections larger than 3′ x 3′ shall be neatly rolled neatly, labeled, and stored in the master bedroom closet for future use by the consumer.
All doors, shelving, door bumpers, or other attached items removed to facilitate carpet installation shall be put back in their original positions.
All installation scraps, trimmings, wrappers, boxes, knife blades, carpet tubes, sub floor sweepings, and personal trash shall be removed from the jobs site after work is completed.
