Tile Scope of Work
General Requirements:
Installation contractor (Contractor) shall maintain a professionally staffed, commercial place of busines, while keeping regular business hours.
Contractor shall provide all products and materials required to complete all work as specified.
Contractor shall provide qualified personnel to perform all work. Contractor’s personnel shall have the proper training, tools, and instructions to perform the required work correctly; be professionally attired or otherwise acceptably presentable; and operate out of suitable vehicles.
Contractor will provide a full-time professional staff to administer and perform warranty, repair and other customer service work associated with the Scope of Work.
Contractor’s personnel will comply with all project rules and regulations governing work procedures, traffic control and parking, use of water, electrical, restroom facilities, safety practices, housekeeping requirements, and personal behavior.
Contractor shall maintain a communication capability that provides ready access to contractor’s key personnel and timely exchange of written information. Fax, voice messaging, pagers, radios, and/or mobile phones are required.
Contractor shall maintain and provide:
Product literature & samples
Written job estimates and price quote
Written installation standards & procedures
Consumer care & maintenance information
Manufacturer’s warranties
Job history records
Job site inspection reports
Contractor will provide contractor’s own written warranty describing the terms and conditions under which installations and workmanship are guaranteed.
Warranties must cover a minimum period of one year from the date job site ownership is transferred to the consumer.
Contractor shall maintain and provide verification of current coverage for workman’s compensation and general liability insurance, which meets or exceeds the project’s requirements.

Material Specifications:
Ceramic tile material shall be:

The above ceramic tile products and their wholesale suppliers shall be evaluated by the Contractor and deemed suitable to meet the project’s requirements for quality, availability, and service support.
All ceramic tile materials and products shall be new, first quality merchandise in current production and covered by written manufacturer’s warranties.
All products such as setting materials, mat, grout & underlayment, etc. used for the installation of ceramic tile shall be of quality and type approved by the tile manufacturer.
Work Procedures:
“All materials and products to be installed shall be delivered and handled on the job site in a manner consistent with the manufacturer’s recommendations and established industry practices. Installers shall possess written work orders detailing the site address, material description and pattern numbers (if applicable), job layout, installation instructions, and all relevant details necessary to confirm the work to be performed at the site.”

A pre-installation job site inspection shall be conducted to confirm floorcovering materials can be properly installed and protected under existing site conditions. Installation will not take place until job site conditions are acceptable or the site manager otherwise authorizes work to proceed.
Additional work required to bring the job site into compliance with proper pre-installation requirements is the responsibility of the site manager.
Prior to product installation, the following basic site preparation procedures shall be completed:
Installer shall check the sub floor with a 6 ft. straight edge to verify that sub floor flatness meets the manufacturer’s recommendations. Vertical deviations greater than ΒΌ inch within a 6 ft. radius are considered to exceed requirements for proper flooring installation.
Rough scrape, and sweep subfloors and/or walls to remove incidental dirt, paint & debris
Re-nail occasional loose subfloor panels and countersink raised nail heads as required
Undercut door casings and jambs to accommodate proper product installation
Float over superficial surface rough spots, depressions and other minor defects
Fine sweep or vacuum to remove small debris
Installation of underlayment is required prior to ceramic tile over plywood floors, the underlayment shall be:
Concrete Slab [*TCA Installation, Method F113-01] No underlayment is required. However, we recommend that all concrete floors be covered with a crack isolation membrane to prevent any damage caused by control joints or cracks in the slab appearing before or after tile installations.
Wood Sub Floor: 16″ O.C. Joist Spacing: [*TCA Installation Method F144-01] Cementitious backer board or fiber cement board, should be installed over a minimum plywood sub floor of 19/32″ with a multi-purpose thin set. Nailed every 6 to 8 inches with 1 1/2 inch roofing nails.
Wood Sub Floor: 19.2″ or 24″ O.C. Joist Spacing: [*TCA Installation Method F147-01] Sub floor must be a 23/32″ tongue and groove exterior glue plywood with a 1/8″ gap between sheets. Overlay must be 3/8″ minimum exterior glue plywood with a 1/8″ gap between sheets. Overlay nailing should not penetrate joist below.
*Ceramic Tile Installation shall follow procedures outlined in the TCA Manual for installing Ceramic Tile 2001.
Performance Standards:
All installations shall be started and completed according to specific schedules.
All installations shall be performed according to methods or established industry standards.
Overall appearance of the installation shall be consistent with other installations in the project and shall meet or exceed manufacturer’s guidelines or accepted industry standards.
Floors & Walls
All doors, shelving cabinetry, kick plates, hardware or attached items removed to facilitate floor or wall installation shall be put back in their original positions
All installation scraps, trimmings, wrappers, boxes, sub floor sweepings and personal trash shall be removed from the job site after work is completed.
All tiles will be free of grout film.
Grout joints will be straight and of uniform width.
Cut tiles will be smooth and free of rough edges.
Floors
All rooms or areas connecting to specific rooms shall have matching shade numbers.
Floors shall be laid out and aligned with main focal points such as longest exposed walls or doorway transitions. (Whenever possible, smaller cuts should be under cabinets, behind toilets, in closets, etc.)
All floor tile shall be installed with a latex modified multi-purpose thinset using a minimum 1/4 x 1/4 inch square notch trowel.
All floor tiles shall be installed with 3/16″ spacers unless self spacing tiles are specified by builder.
Grout joints will be straight and of uniform width.
Spacers shall be removed prior to grouting.
All doorjambs and casings shall be cut cleanly and evenly to within 1/8 inch of floor surface.
All tile cuts must be within 1/8 inch of perimeter walls before or after wood base installation.
All thresholds shall be underfilled with thinset or grout.
Walls
All connecting walls or walls within the same room shall have matching shade numbers.
All walls shall be laid out to minimize sliver cuts.
Walls installed over prefab shower pans shall have clean weep holes, free of grout or setting materials.
All wall tile shall be kept level regardless of floors, tubs, counter tops, etc.
Final caulking of all 90-degree inside angles is available on request from our service department after final cleaning.This does not include perimeter of floors.
If tile specified by builder has no available bullnose, outside perimeter of installation shall be exposed factory edges.
