Vinyl Scope of Work
General Requirements:
Installation contractor (Contractor) shall maintain a professionally staffed, commercial place of business keeping regular hours.
Contractor shall provide all products and materials to complete all work as specified.
Contractor shall provide qualified personnel to perform all work. Contractor’s personnel shall have the proper training, tools, and instructions to perform the required work correctly; be professionally attired or otherwise acceptably presentable; and operate out of suitable vehicles.
Contractor will provide a full-time professional staff to administer and perform warranty, repair, and other customer service work associated with this Scope of Work.
Contractor’s personnel will comply with all project rules and regulations governing work procedures, traffic control and parking, use of water, electrical, and restroom facilities, safety practices, housekeeping requirements, and personal behavior.
Contractor will maintain a communication capability, which provides ready access to contractor’s key personnel and timely exchange of written information. FAX, voice messaging, pagers, radios, and/or mobile phones are required.
Contractor shall maintain and provide:
Product literature & samples
Written job estimates and price quotes
Written installation standards & procedures
Consumer care & maintenance information
Manufacturer’s warranties
Job history records
Job site inspection reports
Contractor will provide contractor’s own written warranty describing the terms and conditions under which installations and workmanship are guaranteed. Warranties must cover a minimum period of one year from the date job site is transferred to the customer.
Contractor shall maintain and provide verification of current coverage for workman’s compensation and general liability insurance, which meets or exceeds the project’s requirements.
Special Requirements:
The descriptions contained in these scopes of Work will be complete except for the modifications and/or additions noted here.
Material Specifications:
Sheet vinyl flooring material shall be:

The above floor covering products and their wholesale suppliers shall be evaluated by the Contractor, and certified as suitable to meet the project’s requirements for quality, availability, and service support.
All sheet vinyl flooring materials and products shall be new, first quality merchandise in current production, and covered by written manufacturer’s warranties.
All metal trim pieces shall be one continuous section unless transition length exceeds 12 feet.
All products such as adhesives, fasteners, seam sealers, underlayment, etc. used for the installation of sheet vinyl flooring materials shall be a quality and type approved by the vinyl manufacturer.
No un-installed flooring products or materials shall be left overnight on the job site without the express approval of the site manager and his acceptance of responsibility for such materials.
Work Procedures:
“All materials and products to be installed shall be delivered and handled on the job site in a manner consistent with the manufacturer’s recommendations and established industry practices. Installers shall possess written work orders detailing the site address, material description and pattern numbers (if applicable), job layout, installation instructions, and all relevant details necessary to confirm the work to be performed at the site.”

A pre-installation job site inspection shall be conducted to confirm floor-covering materials can be properly installed and protected under existing site conditions. Installation will not take place until job site conditions are acceptable or the site manager otherwise authorizes work to proceed.
Additional work required to bring the job site into compliance with proper pre-installed requirements is the responsibility of the site manager.
Installer shall check the subfloor with a 6-ft. straight edge to verify that subfloor flatness meets the manufacturer’s recommendations, vertical deviations greater than 3/16-inch within a 6-foot radius are considered to exceed requirements for proper flooring installation.
Prior to product installation, the following basic site preparation procedures shall be completed:
Rough scrape and sweep subfloor surfaces to remove incidental dirt, paint, and debris
Re-nail occasional loose subfloor panels, and countersink raised nail heads as required
Undercut door casings and jambs to accommodate proper product installation
Sand flat any raided OSB or plywood subfloor panel joints
Fill minor surface cracks, pits, and divots using a cementbased patching compound
Float over superficial surface rough spots, depressions, and other minor defects
Cover obvious of suspicious surface contamination with aluminum foil
Finish sand of scrape surface smooth, and fine sweep of vacuum to remove small debris
Installation of underlayment is required prior to installing vinyl materials, the underlayment shall be:
4′x 4′ x ΒΌ multiply plywood panels manufactured by MacMillen-Bloedel Corp.
Installed in a staggered pattern which overlaps existing subfloor joints by at least 4″
Installed using either 1.25″ ring-shank nails or 1/8′ x 7/8′ cementcoated staples
Installed with fasteners every 4′ throughout the center and 2′ along the perimeter of each panel
Performance Standards:
All installations shall be started and completed according to specified schedules
All installations shall be performed according to methods and procedures as specified by the vinyl manufacturer or established industry standards.
Overall appearance of the installation shall be consistent with other installations in the project, and shall meet or exceed manufacturer’s guidelines or accepted industry standards.
All vinyl seamed together as part of a continuous installation shall have the same roll number Vinyl patterns shall be aligned (i.e. squared up) with specific walls as follows:
Kitchens- Longest interior wall
Laundry- Longest exposed wall (or bi-fold opening) not hidden by washer/dryer
Powder Room- Longest exposed wall not used for commode or vanity cabinet
Baths- Longest exposed wall not used for commode, vanity, shower stall, or bathtub
Foyer or other rooms- Longest continuous wall
Vinyl pattern lines shall appear straight without obvious bows, warps, or other distortions
Installed vinyl shall be cut next to baseboards, cabinets, and other vertical surfaces
Doorjambs and casings shall be cut cleanly and evenly within 1/8 inch of flooring surface
Vinyl shall fully extend under stoves, refrigerators, and other freestanding appliances
Vinyl shall extend past from support legs of undercounter appliances such as dishwashers and trash compactors
Vinyl shall be sufficiently extended at transition points with other floor coverings to permit finishing trim strips to overlap vinyl
No gaps or exposed fasteners shall be visible at the perimeter of the installation after all trims and shoe moldings have been properly installed
Original seams shall be located within pattern grout lines
Seems shall be flat, neat, clean, tight, and free of any adhesive residue
Seems shall be sealed according to the vinyl manufacturer’s instructions using the recommended seam sealer
Seam sealer may be faintly visible at the seams, but sealer shall appear to be neatly and evenly applied (3/ 32′ - 1/8″ bead width is ideal)
Surface of installed vinyl shall appear smooth and be free of random pinpoints caused by small bits of debris trapped under the material
Surface of installed vinyl shall lay flat and be free of permanent wrinkles, waves, or bulges
All vinyl transition trim strips shall be installed square with doorways and other floor coverings
Trim strips shall be of a single piece, well fitted, securely attached, and not damaged or denied
Complete vinyl installations shall be free of mis-cuts, adhesive residue, mis-applied seam-sealer, or any surface marks or blemishes caused by installation procedures
Wet seam, sealer shall be flagged with strip of yellow CAUTION tape secured adjacent to the seam
Gold-colored 1″ wide metal binder bar shall be used to trim vinyl installations with touching hardwood flooring when the finished surface of the vinyl is within 1/8″ of the finished surface of the hardwood. Otherwise, the hardwood contractor shall provide a matching wood reducer or threshold to complete the transition
Vinyl installations shall be neatly covered with protective paper to within 4 inches of baseboards and cabinets (closets, small pantries, under desks, and around toilets are expected). Only blue masking tape shall be used to secure paper to vinyl surfaces
All doors, shelving, cabinetry, kick plate, hardware, or attached items removed to facilitate flooring installation shall be put back in their original positions.
Scrap vinyl sections larger than 3′ x 3′ shall be neatly rolled on a cardboard tube, labeled, and stored in the laundry area for future use by the consumer.
All installation scraps, trimmings, wrappers, boxes, knife blades, cardboard tubes, sub floor sweepings, and personal trash shall be removed from the jobs site after work is completed.
